\u042d\u043a\u0441\u043f\u0435\u0440\u0438\u0430\u043d<\/strong> is imposing another price increase on credit reports sold to mortgage lenders \u2014 an unusual move at this time of year, according to resellers who spoke with \u0416\u0438\u043b\u044c\u0435\u041f\u0440\u043e\u0432\u043e\u043b\u043e\u043a\u0430<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have never seen a price increase after a price increase in January,\u201d said one reseller executive, who requested anonymity to avoid potential retaliation. \u201cIt comes out to about 3% [of a tri-merge credit report of about $90]\u2014 roughly $3 per borrower.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe recently received a pricing increase from one of our data partners,\u201d \u0428\u0435\u043b\u043b\u0438 \u041b\u0435\u043e\u043d\u0430\u0440\u0434<\/a>, \u043f\u0440\u0435\u0437\u0438\u0434\u0435\u043d\u0442 \u041a\u0441\u0430\u043a\u0442\u0443\u0441<\/strong>, said in a statement while declining to provide further information. \u201cWhile the timing may come as a surprise to many in the market, our priority is to carefully assess the impact and determine the most responsible way to move forward.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Credit report prices for mortgage lenders have already climbed by as much as 50% in 2026<\/a>, resellers said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The moves come amid heightened competition among credit scoring providers after the \u0424\u0435\u0434\u0435\u0440\u0430\u043b\u044c\u043d\u043e\u0435 \u0430\u0433\u0435\u043d\u0442\u0441\u0442\u0432\u043e \u0436\u0438\u043b\u0438\u0449\u043d\u043e\u0433\u043e \u0444\u0438\u043d\u0430\u043d\u0441\u0438\u0440\u043e\u0432\u0430\u043d\u0438\u044f<\/strong> (\u0424\u0425\u0424\u0410<\/a>) allowed \u0424\u0430\u043d\u043d\u0438 \u041c\u044d\u0439<\/strong> \u0438 \u0424\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0434\u0438 \u041c\u0430\u043a<\/strong> to begin purchasing loans underwritten with VantageScore<\/strong> 4.0, offering an alternative to the long-dominant Classic \u0424\u0418\u041a\u041e <\/strong>score. <\/p>\n

Another change is a national ban on abusive trigger leads<\/a> that\u2019s set to take effect this week. Prescreened credit reports are a product sold by the credit bureaus, mainly Experian. <\/p>\n

The three major bureaus \u2013\u00a0\u042d\u043a\u0432\u0438\u0444\u0430\u043a\u0441<\/strong>,\u00a0\u042d\u043a\u0441\u043f\u0435\u0440\u0438\u0430\u043d<\/strong>\u00a0\u0438\u00a0\u0422\u0440\u0430\u043d\u0441\u042e\u043d\u0438\u043e\u043d\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 did not reply to\u00a0\u0416\u0438\u043b\u044c\u0435\u041f\u0440\u043e\u0432\u043e\u043b\u043e\u043a\u0430<\/strong>\u2018s requests for comments. There\u2019s still some confusion on how the legislation will work in practice, these sources added.<\/p>\n

An Experian spokesperson told HousingWire that the company recently communicated to mortgage partners \u201ca new strategic pricing structure,\u201d which will provide \u201cadditional Experian value added services and maintain current pricing.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe pricing structure is designed to bring a broader set of capabilities across the lending lifecycle to our partners, and we are actively working with them to implement. Any external view of impact is not based on this engagement or informed by us,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u00a0<\/p>\n

According to the spokesperson, Experian lowered the price of a standalone VantageScore 4.0 score to one-third the price of a FICO score for 2026 \u2014 compared to about 50% previously \u2014 while VantageScore 4.0 continues to be free in 2026 when bundled with legacy scores. <\/p>\n

These actions were taken to \u201caccelerate score competition through VantageScore adoption,\u201d which is the \u201cbest and most responsible way to bring about meaningful savings to the industry,\u201d the spokesperson added. <\/p>\n

But the reduction to the VantageScore price came with \u201cpricing adjustments to credit reports,\u201d which can be \u201coffset by strategic partnership commitments,\u201d the company said last week in a letter sent to clients that was reviewed by HousingWire. The changes will take place in April.<\/p>\n

In October, \u042d\u043a\u0441\u043f\u0435\u0440\u0438\u0430\u043d<\/a> announced it would offer VantageScore 4.0<\/a> free of charge to mortgage clients. The move followed similar decisions by \u042d\u043a\u0432\u0438\u0444\u0430\u043a\u0441<\/strong><\/a> \u0438 \u0422\u0440\u0430\u043d\u0441\u042e\u043d\u0438\u043e\u043d<\/strong><\/a>, which, along with Experian, jointly own VantageScore.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Resellers argue that the latest increase by Experian disproportionately affects mortgage lenders because they are required to pull credit reports from all three bureaus.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the consumer side, you only have to pull one bureau. But in mortgage, we\u2019re required to pull all three. That\u2019s why they\u2019re putting it on the housing side. This increase lies solely at the feet of Experian,\u201d the reseller executive said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to resellers, the latest change could force them to renegotiate agreements with lenders just months after annual contracts were signed. In some cases, contracts prohibit additional increases within 12 months, meaning the added costs may be absorbed by resellers and squeeze margins.<\/p>\n
