Following in the footsteps of an initial dataset for 2025<\/a>, \u041e\u0431\u0440\u0430\u0442\u043d\u044b\u0439 \u043e\u0431\u0437\u043e\u0440 \u0440\u044b\u043d\u043a\u0430 <\/strong>(RMI) and HECMWorld published updated numbers this week for reverse mortgage broker and third-party originator activity.<\/p>\n

While the top Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM<\/a>) originators for January 2026 did not vary from 2025 as a whole, they offer insight into which companies hit the ground running in 2026 \u2014 a year likely to be defined by high levels of senior home equity<\/a>, mortgage rate movements<\/a> and potential \u0438\u0437\u043c\u0435\u043d\u0435\u043d\u0438\u044f<\/a> to the HECM and HECM Mortgage-Backed Securities (HMBS) programs.<\/p>\n

The top 10 HECM brokers for the 12-month period ending in January were led by Florida-based Atlantic Avenue Mortgage<\/strong>, which endorsed 935 HECM loans during the period. It also led all companies by endorsing 113 loans in January 2026 \u2014 well above its 12-month average of 78 endorsements.<\/p>\n

Second place went to \u043a\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0438\u0442\u0434\u0435\u043f\u043e<\/a><\/strong> with 449 endorsements, including 38 in January. Caliver Beach Mortgage<\/strong> was third with 386, while C2 Financial Corp.<\/a><\/strong> (204) and Carrington Mortgage Services<\/a> <\/strong>(153) rounded out the top five.<\/p>\n

Broker channel data for January lags lender data for February<\/a> that was released earlier this month by RMI. That report showed that HECM endorsements dropped by nearly 21% from January to February, with the 1,821 loans endorsed last month representing the lowest level since early in the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u041d\u043e\u0432\u044b\u0435 \u0441\u043e\u0432\u0435\u0442\u043d\u0438\u043a\u0438 \u043f\u043e \u043f\u0440\u043e\u0441\u043c\u043e\u0442\u0440\u0443 <\/strong>reported negative impacts to the secondary market in February as HMBS issuance fell to $431 million across 66 pools, with first participation down to $260 million. That was down $103 million from January and $39 million below February 2025 levels.<\/p>\n

Stagnant activity for the federally insured HECM program is also tied to increased demand for \u043e\u0431\u0440\u0430\u0442\u043d\u044b\u0435 \u0438\u043f\u043e\u0442\u0435\u0447\u043d\u044b\u0435 \u043a\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0438\u0442\u044b \u0441 \u0441\u043e\u0431\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0435\u043d\u043d\u044b\u043c\u0438 \u0441\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0430\u043c\u0438<\/a>, which accounted for 45% market share in December, according to New View. <\/p>\n

That segment has expanded significantly in recent years as leading lenders like \u0412\u0437\u0430\u0438\u043c\u043d\u0430\u044f \u0438\u043f\u043e\u0442\u0435\u043a\u0430 \u0432 \u041e\u043c\u0430\u0445\u0435<\/strong> \u0438 \u041b\u043e\u043d\u0433\u0431\u0440\u0438\u0434\u0436 \u0424\u0438\u043d\u0430\u043d\u0441\u043e\u0432\u044b\u0439 <\/strong>have released and updated their private-label product sets. <\/p>\n

\u0412\u043e \u0432\u0442\u043e\u0440\u043d\u0438\u043a, \u0424\u0438\u043d\u0430\u043d\u0441\u044b \u0410\u043c\u0435\u0440\u0438\u043a\u0438<\/strong> said that it would launch one of its proprietary loans, HomeSafe Second, in three additional states<\/a>. HomeSafe Second is a second-lien reverse mortgage that allows seniors to tap home equity without trading in their low-rate first mortgage.
