{"id":62958,"date":"2026-05-05T03:05:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T01:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/housesmarketplace.com\/exps-wendy-forsythe-on-how-women-can-break-into-the-c-suite\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T03:05:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T01:05:08","slug":"exps-wendy-forsythe-on-how-women-can-break-into-the-c-suite","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/housesmarketplace.com\/ru\/exps-wendy-forsythe-on-how-women-can-break-into-the-c-suite\/","title":{"rendered":"eXp\u2019s Wendy Forsythe on how women can break into the C-suite"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><em>Photo by AJ Canaria\/HousingWire\u2019s The Gathering<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Even as as real estate talent pipelines overflow with qualified women, data shows little has changed in female representation at the highest executive levels over the last several decades, Wendy Forsythe told attendees at <strong>HousingWire&#039;s<\/strong> The Gathering last week in Austin, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>In a session titled \u201cThe table wasn\u2019t built for us: How to get more women into the C-Suite,\u201d the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/leadingre-exp-realtrends-models\/\">\u042d\u043a\u0441\u043f \u041d\u0435\u0434\u0432\u0438\u0436\u0438\u043c\u043e\u0441\u0442\u044c<\/a><\/strong> chief marketing officer opened with the story of Anne Boden, who had a nearly 30-year career in banking in the U.K.<\/p>\n<p>Boden rose from an entry-level position to become COO of the country\u2019s largest bank.  <\/p>\n<p>Around the late 2000s, she saw changes coming to the banking industry and pitched an idea to her CEO and board of directors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat idea was shot down,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/winner-profile\/2025-woman-of-influence-wendy-forsythe\/\">Forsythe<\/a> said. \u201cWe\u2019ve all been there. We\u2019ve had ideas. They  get shot down. She continued to do the research and she thought this was really a big opportunity. And she pitched again. And the idea was shot down again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boden noticed she was being left out of meetings. Eventually, her boss called her into his office and said the board thought it was probably the right time for her to think about retiring. <\/p>\n<p>Boden retired at age 54 \u2014 and then founded <strong>Starling Bank<\/strong>, the first digital bank in the U.K., which later sold for a billion dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Forsythe said the middle part of Boden\u2019s story holds the most lessons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve all been talked over. We\u2019ve all been passed over. But we still showed up,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019ve still pushed for those ideas. We\u2019ve been in those places where our ideas have not been given the full merit. Or worse, our ideas have been taken by somebody else.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-lie-of-i-m-too-old\">The lie of \u2018I\u2019m too old\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Forsythe argued that<a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/women-real-estate-leadership\/\"> women<\/a> have been told a lie \u2014 one that starts with imposter syndrome and self-talk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve observed that there\u2019s a certain stage we start to tell ourselves, \u2018I\u2019m too old. I have the wrong background. I\u2019ve missed my chance,&#8217;\u201d she said. \u201cI think we have to change that narrative of self talk. We\u2019re not too old. And it doesn\u2019t matter what our background is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Research cited by Forsythe showed that 53% of 200 female founders started a business in an area where they had no background or education. <\/p>\n<p>Female founders over 40, she added, are creating incredible opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou guys have all navigated the transactions, the HR issues, the situations that only your intuition got the team through,\u201d Forsythe said. \u201cThat experience matters. That experience cannot be pushed down.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-three-moves-to-change-the-game\">Three moves to change the game<\/h2>\n<p>Forsythe outlined three actions women should take to advance.<\/p>\n<p>Those started with \u2018building your own table\u2019 \u2014\u00a0advising listeners to avoid fighting for a seat at a table that wasn\u2019t designed for them, and instead build their own rooms for others to join.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFind the community of people that you share the values with,\u201d Forsythe said. \u201cFind the community of men and women that you want to build with. Build your own room, build your own table and start to build businesses and initiatives and ideas around that table that will get bigger.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mentors-vs-sponsors\">Mentors vs. sponsors<\/h2>\n<p>Move two called for making a clear distinction between mentors, who offer advice, and sponsors, who actively open doors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA sponsor advocates for you, and that is a big, big difference,\u201d Forsythe said. \u201cMen do this for each other. If you really think about men around you, they are in networks of sponsors. They are calling each other, and they\u2019re saying, \u2018Oh, did you hear this is happening? You need to know about this. You need to make this connection.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen do not do that the same way for each other. They do not sponsor each other the same way, and I think we need to change that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that sponsorship doesn\u2019t require being high up the food chain, and can be accomplished from any level. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-be-bold\">Be bold<\/h2>\n<p>Move three was simple; be more bold and don\u2019t wait for the easiest moment to make a move.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to step into taking those chances for ourselves,\u201d Forsythe said. \u201cWe need to be okay with potentially being rejected and take those swings. We need to ask for those opportunities before we feel ready. Because that\u2019s how we will get more of those opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Forsythe closed with a direct challenge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rules about who gets to build something great were not written for us,\u201d she said. \u201cBut the future is being built by us. So stop asking for a seat at a table \u2014 it was never designed for you. Build a better room. Bring other women into it. Sit down at that table together. Be bold enough to start before you\u2019re ready.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added a final note on Boden\u2019s story. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf somebody ever tells you to retire before you\u2019re ready to retire, be like Anne and do the exact opposite and go show them exactly what you can do,\u201d Forsythe said. <\/p>\n<p>Forsythe recently published her first book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Leverage-Your-X-Factor-Framework-Business\/dp\/B0GQK38L6P\">\u201cLeverage Your X Factor,\u201d<\/a> with all proceeds going to support eXp\u2019s Extend a Hand program, which helps real estate agents in times of crisis due to medical issues or natural disasters.<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Photo by AJ Canaria\/HousingWire\u2019s The Gathering Even as as real estate talent pipelines overflow with qualified women, data shows little has changed in female representation at the highest executive levels over the last several decades, Wendy Forsythe told attendees at HousingWire\u2019s The Gathering last week in Austin, Texas.
