This Upscale Cocktail Is Tailor-Made for Your Olympics Watch Party

It’s crafted by the same brand that makes Team USA’s iconic Opening and Closing Ceremony uniforms, after all.

The Summer Olympics are here, and for the ninth time, Ralph Lauren has dressed the U.S. competitors in his All-American designs, including jeans, a navy blazer with white and blue piping that’s emblazoned with the iconic Polo logo, a blue and white striped shirt, and a navy knit tie for a timeless—and truly American—look.

“Ralph Lauren has once again created designs that not only capture the essence of American style but also embody the spirit and pride of Team USA,” Sarah Hirshland, the CEO of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, said of the outfits in a statement released by Ralph Lauren.

While the Ralph Lauren uniform is just about as Team USA as can be, a cocktail concocted by the brand to honor the athletes of the Olympics and Paralympics has a decidedly French flair. Dubbed La Victoire (the victory), the drink is now being served at the brand’s restaurants, Ralph’s in Paris, The Polo Bar in New York City, and RL Restaurant in Chicago through September 8—and just as you don’t have to actually be in Paris to watch the Olympics, you can enjoy this fizzy cocktail at home, too.

The Champagne-based La Victoire is a nod to the French tradition of celebrating with the country’s favorite bubbly sip, but zhuzhed up to make the drink as unique and festive as the Olympics themselves. You may not have a stop at any of the three Ralph Lauren locations where you can order a La Victoire on your calendar anytime soon, but we have the recipe to make it at home, thanks to Town & Country.

To make La Victoire, you’ll need Champagne, club soda, 1 1/4 oz. Salers (a French aperitif), 1/2 oz. verjus, 3/4 oz. rosemary syrup, 3/4 oz. Golden Falernum, and 1 fresh bay leaf. Combine the Salers, verjus, rosemary syrup, and Golden Falernum in a shaker; top it with Champagne, then add a splash of club soda. Pour the blend over ice in a spritz glass and garnish with the fresh bay leaf. Cheers!

Included in the ingredients are a few things you may not have stocked in your liquor cabinet. Salers is a French aperitif with a bittersweet, earthy flavor and touches of anise and citrus. Verjus is a non-alcoholic grape juice with a tart flavor often used in marinades and sauces, and Golden Falernum is a rum-based liqueur flavored with ginger and vanilla with a touch of lime.

There’s no need to cook an elaborate French meal to enjoy with your La Victoire. (And if you’d prefer a classic beer or mocktail while you cheer on your team, go with what you love!) Traditional sporty snacks like cheese and crackers, chips and dip, mixed nuts, or even cocktail meatballs will go just fine with this fusion of bold flavors. Whether you’re watching the equestrians gallop toward gold or you’re cheering on Team USA in basketball or soccer, you can toast to the winners and almost-winners with a La Victoire for an international Olympics-flavored indulgence.
