Luckily, you don’t have to go to the hospital to enjoy her top pick for post-delivery meal.

Joanna Gaines has many areas of expertise, just one of which is being a mom. With five children—Drake, 19; Ella, 17; Duke, 16; Emmie, 14; and Crew, 6—whom she shares with her equally-talented husband Chip, Joanna could probably give a masterclass in motherhood right after a tutorial on choosing paint colors or installing shiplap.
Another of her skills is cooking, which she does on her show Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines. Regarding taste level, few can match Joanna’s palettes—or palate.
And apparently her experience with food overlaps with raising kids in quite a niche way: According to a post on her Instagram (where she’s amassed 13.8 million followers), one of Joanna’s favorite parts of giving birth is the meal she gets to eat when she’s in the hospital.

Yes, you read that correctly, the hospital food.
“I know it’s not a good thing when you’re in the hospital, but any time I have to or had to have gone to the hospital, there are two things I look forward to: chicken cordon bleu and anesthesia,” she said, quickly adding “Oh, and the baby! I love meeting the baby!”
Since this is Joanna Gaines, connoisseur of good food and gorgeous design, we have to take her word for it, right? Apparently, the hospital where she’s given birth to all five of her kids makes a mean chicken cordon bleu that she craves after each delivery. Fans of her Insta account were a bit taken aback, to say the least.
“Where the heck do you get chicken cordon bleu at a hospital?” one person commented. “That’s awesome. I think I got a sandwich box after my third: sub sandwich, chips, brownie, and some apple juice,” another follower wrote.

Thankfully, Joanna told this story to introduce an episode of her show, Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines. Along with giving a recipe and step-by-step chicken cordon bleu tutorial, the meal includes Gruyère potato casserole, arugula and dried cherry salad, and peanut butter pie with chocolate crust.
While we can’t be 100% sure, it’s a good bet that the hospital’s sides and dessert (not to mention the chicken cordon bleu recipe) were not as delicious or meticulously made as Joanna’s dishes. But when you’re really, really hungry—like you get after giving birth to a baby—pretty much everything tastes amazing.
