All it needs is a lake or mountain view.

We’d be lying if we said we’ve never been tempted to scoop up a tiny house on Amazon. There’s a surprising abundance of prefab kits up for grabs at relatively affordable price points (when you consider how expensive most real estate listings are these days, that is), including a three-bedroom complete with plumbing. But this is our first time spotting an A-frame cabin.
Thoughts of spending weekends off the grid in the wilderness, surrounded by tall, knotty pines, occupies our brain space frequently. And while this $14,999 tiny home’s potential as a primary residence is listed, we see it as the perfect vacation retreat, especially since the mirrored design (complete with a shared rooftop balcony!) is ideal for hosting family and friends. Needless to say, our curiosity was piqued enough to take a closer look at whether it’s actually worth the investment.

Here’s what details we could glean from the listing: This is a three-bedroom home with a living room and balcony. It’s roughly 19 feet tall and 36 feet long, which we’d argue is relatively spacious (an estimation that’s just shy of 1,000 square feet), but still small enough to keep it low maintenance. The framing is constructed with galvanized steel (resistant to corrosion) and a precast foundation. While the wood panel walls are actually bamboo—feeling decidedly more modern than a traditional log cabin—it provides a similarly cozy vibe. Perhaps our favorite part? The floor-to-ceiling glass windows for soaking up good views.

There are a few caveats, however. For starters, there’s no indication as to whether it’s outfitted for plumbing and electricity (but that also means you might be able to install a few solar panels). It also weighs a whopping 2,204 pounds, so we’re unsure of its portability, despite its prefabrication label. All in all, it’s pretty much a blank slate in terms of design, which gives you the freedom to make this house truly a home. Now all that’s missing is you, a cup of coffee, and your favorite patio furniture set.
