Just when we think we know everything about Jennifer Garner, she surprises us with yet another skill. She’s an actor, she’s a mom, she’s the host of her own Pretend Cooking Show, and she’s offering fitness inspiration to her 17 million Instagram followers, just to name a few of her many accomplishments. Now, Garner’s proving that she’s got some seriously good design taste, too. Jennifer Garner gave the world a peek into her farmhouse-inspired California home in the October 2024 issue of Architectural Digest, which she also appears on the cover of, and if you’re anything like us, you’re absolutely drooling over the woodsy details and cozy atmosphere.
Inspired by her childhood in West Virginia, Garner’s custom-built home, which she shares with her three children, feels like it belongs on acres of sprawling farmland rather than the hills of Los Angeles. Over the course of five years, Garner—with the help of a team of pros—curated a home that encourages a more intentional, slower way of living, and the care that went into creating this family home is clear in every photo.
There’s plenty to appreciate about Garner’s home—and plenty to draw inspiration from for your own space. Read on for our favorite parts of Garner’s AD house tour feature.
1. A Moody Blue Color Scheme
Garner’s home has an organic color scheme with pops of brass and leather, which we love. But it’s the accent color we’re swooning over—a moody blue-gray. The color is used in many rooms throughout the home, like in the upholstery on living room chairs and the duvet in the primary bedroom, but the moody blue color is put on fullest display in Garner’s library.
The library, designed to be a spot to lounge and read or watch a movie, is drenched in the blue-gray color (Farrow & Ball’s Stiffkey Blue, per AD). In fact, the space is centered around this specific color, with the built-in bookcases, sectional sofa, curtains, and ceiling all in the moody hue. (We love a good color-drenching moment.) While color variation is introduced into the space via the books on the shelves and gold sconces on the walls, we wouldn’t mind if everything in the room was that beautiful, deep blue color.
2. Intentional Small Spaces
One design element anyone can appreciate is Garner’s intentional use of small spaces. For example, she turned an unused closet under the stairs into a Harry Potter-esque office for her son, complete with starry wallpaper and a built-in desk. She also made good use of her stair landing by turning it into a study space for her children. Plus, she created a cozy reading nook with bookcases and a small bed in a hidden nook on the landing.
3. Bold Window Features
The Garner home’s warm and airy feeling can be attributed in large part to the abundance of windows that flood the home with natural light. Garner’s living room features Crittall-style windows that span the entire wall and open up to the backyard dining area—talk about dreamy. The windows continue into the kitchen and open to a serene backyard pool.
Another window feature we love about Garner’s home is the surprise addition of stained glass scattered throughout the house. Because Garner’s home is decorated in a fairly neutral color palette, the stained glass windows add a welcome pop of color. The windows also feature whimsical designs like the old oak tree in the window in the hidden reading nook.
4. Built-In Bunks
Garner’s slumber party and recreation room has us dreaming of recreating childhood sleepovers. The room houses a sectional couch, a TV screen, and the stars of the show—four built-in bunk beds. The two sets of bunks, which are connected by a wooden staircase, are outfitted with sconces and individual curtains for each bed. The room and bunks are decorated in neutrals with pops of the aforementioned moody blue-gray color. Aside from the built-in bunks, the room is stocked with games and cozy pillows and blankets that Garner’s children and their friends can enjoy all night long.

5. A Miniature Orchard
One of the dreamiest elements of Garner’s home is her miniature orchard. Rows of fruit trees ranging from cherry to apple trees are nestled in her front yard, and best of all, the trees are all fed by a gray water system, which reuses and filters water collected from Garner’s washing machine, dishwasher, and shower. Not only is Garner growing her own produce in her lush orchard, but she’s growing it in an eco-friendly fashion.

6. Barn-Inspired Touches
In her interview with AD, Garner says she wanted her house to feel like an “old farmhouse next to an old barn.” To create this feeling, farmhouse- and barn-inspired touches are used throughout the home. Take the primary bathroom, which has a vaulted ceiling with a triangular barn window. Not only does the window flood the bathroom with natural light, but it also looks stunning from the exterior.
Another intentional farmhouse feature in Garner’s home are plenty of exposed wooden beams. From the living room and kitchen to the bathroom, the use of light wood beams makes the home feel cohesive and gives a rustic touch to the retreat-like house.
7. A Kitchen Fireplace
While beautiful stone fireplaces don’t fit into the kitchens of most homes, we are loving the fact that Garner included one in her dream kitchen design. Situated next to a table and chairs, the stone fireplace adds textural variety to a nearly all-wood kitchen. It also brings warmth and more of that special farmhouse-esque warmth that fills Garner’s home.
