Robin Murphy, a cleaning expert and founder of the residential cleaning service ChirpChirp, says, “Electric mops can clean very well but you need to be careful that you are using the right setting and kind of mop pad depending on the floor type such as wood, tile, or stone.”

When it came to cleaning up sticky messes, the cordless Bissell SpinWave Cordless PET Hard Floor Spin Mop came out on top. It features two spinning mop heads, which makes mopping less strenuous, and a swivel head that helps you move it around corners and into tight spaces.
During six months of testing, it removed many messes including fruit juice, cheese, popsicle drippings, and dirt. The mop glided smoothly over all the floors we tested it on, and we liked that the pads had velcro on the back, so they were easy to remove after a cleaning session.
The device is cordless, with a runtime of about 20 minutes on a full charge. We were impressed with its long-lasting 18V lithium-ion battery. We also loved how quiet it was, to the point that we could run it while people were sleeping elsewhere in the house.
After you’re done, the mop fits neatly onto the storage dock. It also comes with two small bottles of cleaning solution, which we ended up only using on the kitchen floor. A spray button on the handle lets you dispense the cleaning spray as you move the mop for fuss-free cleaning.
While it performed well, the mop had difficulties cleaning the grout. We would have preferred mop pads with more texture, which might have helped them get deeper into crevices between tile and wood planks. The head was also too large and round to fit neatly in tight corners and under the couch.

The Shark Steam Mop Hard Floor Cleaner S1000 is as basic as it comes, but it gets the job done. It has no extra accessories or settings—you just have to plug it in to start cleaning. That said, if you just need a step up from a basic mop, it’s the best electric mop on a budget.
It performed consistently well over six months of testing, plus was easy to move. While we found the mop incredibly light and nimble, we noticed that it was most effective if we mopped in straight lines. Because of its block shape, it had difficulty cleaning corners.
We liked using the steam function to wipe heavy stains off the floor, which it was able to do without much effort. The water tank is also easy to attach and detach. We think it’s an excellent pick for young adults living in dorms or their first apartment.
There were a few issues that we noticed throughout our tests; specifically, the mop pad kept rolling under the mop and detaching while we cleaned, which was aggravating. It also seemed to clean concrete floors better than tile.

If you’re looking for a professional-quality steam cleaner, the Euroflex Vapor Pro M4S is the best electric mop to splurge on. The mop features a high-pressure steamer that heats water to 275℉, killing bacteria and removing grime and dirt stains.
The combination of the steamer and microfiber cleaning pads effectively removed any type of gunk during testing. It also cleaned fairly quickly, with it generally taking under five minutes (and only a few passes) to get the floor clean.
Another positive feature is the large tank that holds enough water for 1800 square feet. This meant we never had to refill the tank in the middle of mopping. While we enjoyed using it, the noise level is similar to a vacuum, so it can be disruptive to others in the home.
The mop has 18 attachments, one for every type of mess. We found them very easy to detach and noticed that they weren’t hot to the touch for long after using, so we didn’t have to protect our hands while switching them out.

The device is one of the best electric mops we tested in terms of maneuverability because it self-propels and easily goes around obstacles. At 13.2 pounds, however, it did feel heavy, though it’s not the heaviest model on our list.
We loved that it heated almost immediately after we turned it on. The long-lasting battery runs for about 35 minutes on a single charge. Unlike most electric mops with only a single tank, the Tineco has two tanks—one for clean and one for dirty water.
In addition, the device has a self-cleaning mode that ensures the tool is always clean for the next time you want to pull it out. Although this mop is more expensive than others on our list, the value it offers is well worth the price.

The PurSteam 10-in-1 Steam Cleaner weighs just 2 pounds, which makes it really easy to handle. Better yet, it performed well on all surfaces during our six-month testing period, including floors and windows. The steam wand is also effective at steam cleaning clothing.
The mop head is big and feels a little clunky at times, however, the device comes with a handheld attachment that helps get into small spaces like behind the toilet. The reusable mop pads are insulated, so we didn’t have to wait for the unit to cool down before removing them.
A foldable handle makes the mop more compact (and easier to store) when not in use. It comes with 10 attachments including a squeegee, various brushes and nozzles, and the steam wand. Handy tools like a cup and funnel to fill the tank and a dial to adjust steam levels make it user-friendly.
We got around 30 minutes of cleaning time on a full tank. The mop worked well, but the head often flipped up when passing over sticky stains like chocolate milk and syrup. The attachments also aren’t that strong, especially the brush bristles, which kept breaking as we cleaned.

The Hoover Steam Complete Pet Steam Mop has 10 attachments that work well across floors, appliances, and windows. Our favorite way to use it is for cleaning glass surfaces such as mirrors because of the squeegee attachment, which we connected to the portable steamer.
The steamer helped to loosen gunk on the stovetop and microwave so we could simply wipe it clean with a cloth after a few minutes. Additionally, the attachments made it easy for us to clean dirt from nooks and crannies.
We were less impressed with its performance on wooden floors. It removed dried mud stains to some extent, but didn’t leave the floors sparkling clean. In general you should be mindful of how often you mop wooden surfaces, as too much heat and water can damage them.
The mop includes two small water tanks, which we had to stop and refill several times while mopping—even during smaller cleaning jobs. Although it wasn’t our favorite electric mop in terms of maneuverability, we liked the pointed mop head for fitting into corners.

Not all mops effectively clean tile floors and grout, but the Bissell Powerfresh Slim Steam Mop has a stiff grout brush that tackles hard-to-remove stains embedded in grout lines. Using the brush along with a microfiber cloth made our grout look brand new.
The mop also comes with other scrubbing brushes, a scraper, and a clothes steamer, among other tools. There is a button to control how much steam you’re using, but you have to keep pressing it for it to work, which could be tiring if you have a bigger mopping job.
During our tests, we loved how quiet the motor was and how compact the mop was overall. It has built-in storage and can be wall-mounted to save space. We thought the grout brush was fantastic but narrow, so it’s only suited for cleaning grout and not useful for general cleaning.

To find the best electric mops, we evaluated a wide range of options both at home and in our lab, including steam and spin mops, using a predetermined methodology.
For steam mops, we weighed each model with and without water in the tank. Next, times how long it took to come to temperature on the highest setting. To assess the maneuverability, we looked at how it moved around objects, under furniture, and into corners and tight spaces.
We evaluated how well the mops cleaned stains like maple syrup, tomato paste, and mud by setting a timer for two minutes and addressing each stain one at a time. We noted how many passes were required to remove it entirely. And we timed how quickly the mops cooled down once unplugged.
For spin mops, we also took measurements, and if there was an adjustable handle, we opened it up to its full length. Then we used a timer throughout the test to keep track of battery life. Like with steam mops, we assessed maneuverability and comfort while using.
To evaluate performance, we tested the mops against apple juice, butter, canola oil, marinara sauce, and potting soil on a hardwood floor. We also recorded how many times we needed to re-wet or rinse the mop pads, or spray water.

If you’re looking for a mop to clean your floors daily, this is an excellent choice. We didn’t think it was that effective for tough stains, however, which was one of the main reasons we left it off our list of the best electric mops. Plus, it felt too bulky to move around easily.
On the positive side, we liked that it runs quietly and has an extra-long cord that didn’t hinder our movements during testing. We would definitely consider buying it on sale but possibly not at full price.
BLACK+DECKER 7in1 Steam Mop at Amazon
This mop is easy to use, but it has complicated instructions that could be off-putting to some users. Aside from that, it worked perfectly fine and cleaned our floors in a few passes. We also found it easy to maneuver (even with a full tank) and had no issues moving it around corners.

What to Know About Electric Mops Before Shopping
Portability and Maneuverability
Electric mops are often heavier than regular mops, although many are designed with features that make them easy to handle. For example, the PurSteam 10-in-1 Steam Cleaner has a foldable handle to make it more compact when storing.
Others have swivel heads that can more easily slide under furniture, beds, and around corners. “You want electric mops to be light enough to move between rooms and up and down the stairs,” says Murphy. “They should either have a long cord, or better yet be cordless.”

According to Murphy, water tank capacity typically ranges from around 12 to 20 ounces (enough for around 15 to 30 minutes of use.). This is consistent with what we found during our testing.
Cord Length
Cord length can vary, but most range from 15 to 25 feet. If you are mostly cleaning medium- to large-sized rooms, go for models that have longer cord lengths that won’t limit your movements, or opt for a cordless device that runs on battery power.
Accessories, Attachments, and Features
Aside from mop pads, most electric mops come with added accessories such as grout brushes, nozzles, and window squeegees. You’ll also find more expensive models that come with small portable steam cleaners or wands to clean counters, windows, shower stalls, or garments.
Others use swivel heads that can slide under furniture, beds, or around corners. “You want electric mops to be light enough to move between rooms and up and down the stairs,” Murphy says. “They should either have a long cord, or better yet, be cordless.”
