One of Southern Maryland’s longest-held agricultural estates is heading to auction, bringing with it nearly four centuries of history and a fully operational boutique farm.
Known as the P.A. Bowen Historic Mansion and Farm, the 95-acre property in Brandywine is set to be sold without reserve on April 9, meaning the final price will be determined entirely by the market.
Currently listed at $7.5 million, the estate combines a restored 19th-century residence with a modern regenerative farming operation.
The property is being sold by Sally Fallon Morell, co-author of Nourishing Traditions, who has spent the past 15 years transforming the land into a nationally recognized, chemical-free farm.
The auction will be handled by Elite Auctions, with listing representation from Bob Lucido and Tracy Lucido of Keller Williams Lucido Agency.
Land first patented in 1665, with roots predating the American Revolution

The estate’s history stretches back to 1665, when the land was first patented, giving it a timeline that predates the founding of the United States by more than a century.
Parts of the original structure still remain, with the home’s current kitchen tracing back to that early period.
The main residence standing today was later built in the 1870s by Philander A. Bowen, establishing the property’s Italianate colonial identity that still defines it.

A 5,500-square-foot Italianate mansion with preserved original details
The primary residence spans roughly 5,500 square feet and includes six bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms.
Much of its historic character has been retained, including 13-foot ceilings, original hardwood floors, and seven working fireplaces.
Formal spaces like the front hall, parlor, and dining room preserve period detailing, while updates such as geothermal heating bring the home in line with modern expectations for comfort.

A fully operational regenerative farm with multiple revenue streams
Beyond the residence, the estate functions as a working farm that has been carefully developed into a turnkey agricultural operation.

The property supports grass-fed dairy cows, heritage pigs, egg-laying hens, meat birds, and seasonal turkeys, all raised without pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic chemicals.
Deep-well water on the property has also tested free of agricultural contaminants.

An on-site artisan cheesemaking facility produces raw milk cheeses that have earned awards from organizations including the American Cheese Society and the Los Angeles International Dairy Competition.
Farm store, farmers market presence, and mail-order business already in place
The operation extends beyond production, with established sales channels already built into the business.
A farm store on the property, a presence at the Annapolis Farmers Market, and a mail-order system provide multiple revenue streams.

The farm also produces permitted raw milk and cream, labeled for pet consumption, adding another niche product line.
Barns, event space, staff housing, and full infrastructure
The estate includes extensive infrastructure designed to support both farming and day-to-day operations.
Три large barns anchor the property, including one configured as an event barn.

Featuring a three-car garage and pool
Additional features include a detached three-car garage, an in-ground pool, a farm store, and dedicated housing for the current staff of four full-time employees.

A turnkey operation offered through a no-reserve auction
The decision to sell the property without reserve sets it apart from more traditional listings. In this format, there is no minimum price threshold, allowing bidders to determine the final sale value.
Open houses are scheduled on weekends leading up to the April 9 auction, which will take place on-site in Brandywine.

For buyers interested in both a historic residence and a functioning agricultural business, the offering presents a rare combination of legacy, infrastructure, and immediate operational potential.
